Chrysta Castañeda writing at a deskChrysta Castañeda, author, candidate for the Texas Railroad Commission, and founder of The Castañeda Firm, has been named to the 2020 list of Texas Super Lawyers for her work in energy and natural resources, and business litigation. She was also featured in a Super Lawyers magazine article about high-profile oil and gas lawyers.

The annual Super Lawyers list, published by Thomson Reuters, recognizes no more than five percent of attorneys from each state and is based on a system of peer review and independent research.

This recognition is the latest in a series of accolades for Castañeda. In August, she was named to The Best Lawyers in America for 2021. In May, she was named a “Trailblazer” by the National Law Journal, and she has been recognized by Texas Lawyer’s Texas Verdicts Hall of Fame for her $146 million verdict on behalf of legendary Texas oilman T. Boone Pickens’ Mesa Petroleum Partners in 2016. She has also been recognized by D Magazine’s Best Lawyers in Dallas and she received the Dallas Business Journal’s Women in Business Award, the “Women in Energy” Award from Texas Lawyer, and was named one of the NLJ’s Elite Trial Lawyers in 2018.

“2020 has been an unusual year,” Castañeda said. “Between the book launch, running a statewide campaign in the middle of a pandemic, and, of course, my ‘day job’ as a practicing attorney, it’s been a whirlwind, but I’ve enjoyed every minute of it.”

At the beginning of this year, Castañeda published her book, The Last Trial of T. Boone Pickens, which recounts her experience as lead counsel in what turned out to be Pickens’ final trial. An experienced litigator in the energy industry, Castañeda followed her record-breaking verdict by setting her sights on public service: She is the Democratic nominee for the Texas Railroad Commission, which regulates the oil and gas industry in Texas.
