Chrysta Castañeda, founding partner of The Castañeda Firm, has once again been named to the Texas Super Lawyers list for her work in energy and natural resources law.
This is Ms. Castañeda’s seventh year on Super Lawyers, a designation given only to the top 5% of lawyers in Texas. Thomson Reuters’ Super Lawyers are chosen through a rigorous multi-step process that includes peer nominations and independent research.
Castañeda has been a go-to lawyer for high-stakes oil and gas litigation for more than 25 years, building up an impressive slate of wins for her clients. In 2016, her $146 million win for T. Boone Pickens’ Mesa Petroleum Partners was named the 12th largest verdict in the nation by The National Law Journal and entered into Texas Lawyer‘s Texas Verdicts Hall of Fame.
She sued the Texas Public Utility Commission in her latest high-profile lawsuit, alleging the agency failed to comply with Texas law by illegally driving up electricity prices and creating artificial scarcity.
Castañeda was inducted as a fellow of the Texas Bar Foundation in 2020 and has been recognized annually in The Best Lawyers in America for oil and gas law since 2021, and D Magazine’s Best Lawyers in Dallas. The Castañeda Firm has also been recognized by the prestigious Chambers Regional Spotlight and Best Law Firms.
Castañeda is also an author, speaker, and community leader on a broad range of energy-related and litigation topics. She frequently appears on local and national television and radio programs to discuss Texas energy issues. In 2020, she was the Democratic nominee for a seat on the Texas Railroad Commission, which oversees Texas’ oil and gas industry.
